Take a look in the Portugese language

Take a look at the history of the Portugese language

At the roots, Portuguese is a Latin language, with different layers of nomadic influences and of the inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula. Of all other Latin languages, Portuguese seems the most similar to Spanish. As the two languages are grown from similar cultures and have had almost the same influences over the years. In fact, a Portuguese can easily understand what a Spaniard says and vice versa, although there are some obvious differences between the two languages, especially in pronunciation of words, spelling, and so forth. The similarities between Portuguese and Spanish are not over yet. Both languages had their Golden Age during the colonial era, where explorers from both countries explored the new countries of South America and founded large communities. The Spaniards colonized areas that form part of Argentina and Mexico today, and Portuguese settlers came to land in present Brazil. Therefore, Portuguese is still the official language of Brazil, which still has the title of second largest Latin language in the world, with about 180 million speakers in Portugal, Brazil and other smaller areas.

Characteristics of the Portugese Language

Portuguese is often seen as a "melodic" language because it has an odd pronunciation of words and sounds. As with other Latin languages, Portuguese is less 'rude' like for example German. And grammar rules seem very similar to what you have learned in Spanish, French or Italian. Most "Learning Portuguese" courses and books will emphasize the fact that the language is analytical because they do not use bumps, while remaining dynamic and soft. The vocabulary, grammar and orthography are easy to understand even if you are not familiar with another Latin language. Actually, one of the biggest benefits of learning Portuguese is that you can easily learn other Latin languages. If you can do Portuguese, there's nothing that stops you from becoming a real polyglot, so you can easily learn Spanish, French, Italian, Romanian or another language with Latin roots.
